The town was a bit touristy for us, so we spent only the one night here. The next day, we visited the Aviary and the Butterfly Farm.
The aviary is free-flight, walk-through and huge, enabling you to walk around with a selection of Australia's bewilderingly large avifauna flying about you and, in the case of the numerous parrots, investigating you closely!
The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary was also free-flight and walk-through, with many butterflies resting on the foliage, the handrails, your arm or your hat.
This butterfly (the Ulysses butterfly?) was described as very rare, but we were delighted to see lots of them flying around as we canoed down the Mulgrave River later on.
